We had no Idea in 1993, we were starting a new thing in the world.
Now it's known as an Entertainment Landscape Art-Form.
Most of us just called it crazy when Don first talked about it. But inspired by
"Field of Dreams" Don wouldn't let the idea wither. |
| Here's just a few of the Maize Mazes "popping up" around the world. |

How about one to drive a sports car through -
MG Maze

Then whole states started appearing...
Like Utah -

Indiana, at McMaze97 -

Utah again, at Lehi

Washington, at Snohomish -

Mazes are fun, and the designs - art done a mammoth scale,
keep showing more of man's creative spirit.

In 1995 we were received a call from France, "Can you come and help us put
in a Maze?" Well, we didn't pack up go over there right away, disapointing some
here, but, as you can see, they put their hand to the task.
Photo and caption below appeared on page 33 of the October/November issue of Civilization,
the magazine of the Library of Congress. It was copied from an article entitled LOST AND
FOUND IN THE WORLDS LARGEST MAZE appearing in the July 27, 1997 issue of the
Manchester Guardian Weekly, 164 Deansgate, Manchester M60 2RR, England.

Maze in the Maize
Whenever the moon is full in the summer, thousands of people
descend on Reignac sur Indre, France, to wander among the green alleyways of several
temporary mazes that sprout in the cornfields. Isabelle de Beaufort, on a one-woman
mission to revive labyrinthine pleasures in Europe, creates the largest mazes in the world
by carefully planting 37 acres with corn, the Manchester Guardian reports. This
environmentally friendly tourist attraction80,000 people visited the Reignac mazes
last yearhas already inspired rivals in Austria and Switzerland.

Wow, what have we started?
From Grandma B's cornfield in Mudtown,
to an agri-entertainment industry spanning the globe.
Interesting.
Oh yes, there are others out there carving up the landscape, too.

Stan Herd does these,

and these. He's a friend...
then he got the bug...

first a fish...
an ancient Xiphactinus -
done in alfalfa, "just for the sake of
creating",
then the following year to corn...
Go, Stan, Go!
and then there are these:

ahh...we're not sure who does these, but...
we do know...
